So far I've been confused by the concept of Big Brother. My question is, is BB a dictator? Or is he a president? Or does BB resemble God, only in a different way? Like, in a way that you don't have a choice in whether you believe in him or not? I can understand this book pretty well in other aspects except this concept.

I think that big brother is a symbol, he represents power. I havent gotten far enough in the book yet to know if B.B. is actually a person, many people, or not a person at all, but i think that the government put him in everyones brain to remind them that someones watching them. Its just another way that the government is controling the people.

I don't believe that BB actually exists as a specific "ruler" of any type. He's simply a symbol of someone to over look the whole society. BB unites everyone by having the same concept for everyone to beileve in. Its another way for the government to have control over all of society.

I believe that instead of big brother being a person he is actually a figurehead of the government. The government wants the people to look up to one person so they use Big Brother. Thus it is easy for them to put him on posters and such. But this is what I think so far. Ill let you know further as I complete the book.
