Dear Fellow Subscribers of the Literature Network:

I am looking for the source of a notable Thomas Jefferson quotation in which he presumably replies to a contemporary of his (and probably a Federalist), "Virginia, Sir, is my country."
I have looked for the source of the aforementioned quotation (or at least a variation of it), but have been unable to find any, and I am beginning to think it is aprocryphal.
Anyways, I am doing this for a course, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely

Jonathan F.

To the best of my knowledge this statement from Jefferson occurred in some correspondence he had just before the Articles of Confederation were enacted.
