Happy children, when they smile,
hold nothing back.

Why would they?

Tomorrow the sun will shine again.
There will be love.

As if you wanted to prove B/V even more right than he already is! :iagree: This one is simplicity vested in charm. I just hope these children do not walk under "my" demiurge's troubled skies...

very simple and effective message Prince. I love your brevity and depth.

Thank you Bar and Delta. Yours are the first reactions to this very new poem and therefore all the more appreciated. The poem was inspired by several photos of one of my two "junior" grand-daughters, 10-year old Meieli who, alas, lives in Zurich.

Classic Prince. Ordinary language made special somehow, some touch of the pen.

Beautiful because of its true meaning. And it is not generalized because you specify "happy children," which makes it accurate.

Here a lot of things is said that needs to be said and this is beautifully said, something of which all of us are envious in a world of poetry.

You've captured the faith children have in life itself. It makes me envious of that innocent belief that tomorrow will be better, rather than worse.

But the child in my poem doesn't believe that tomorrow will be better but rather that it will be the same. And as for their faith/innocence, one doesn't know where they get it but we as parents or grandparents have the privilege of nourishing it.

Bit late to this one, but I enjoyed its simple brilliance. If William Blake had joined The Beatles, they might have written a song lyric like this.

Bit late to this one, I expect it was the lengthiness that delayed you

but I enjoyed its simple brilliance. If William Blake had joined The Beatles, they might have written a song lyric like this.

but perhaps you can imagine how chuffed I am by your comments. Thank you

I actually said "Awww" when I read this, and it made me smile. Yes, I can hear this to a Beathles tune. In fact it reminds me of my favorite Beatles song "Here comes the sun." I read the lyrics to a class once (they were learning English); one boy smirked. Then I played the song and he got very quiet.

Beautiful, Prince.

Thank you. I have to fight with whatever degree of modesty I have, to tell you this, but I have repeated this poem to myself silently or out loud countless times because there is something so right (to me) not only about the 'message' but about the rhythm and the brevity of it. That last line should hit the reader like some obvious yet wonderful fact of nature.
