Hello to those who remember me. I wrote this sometime in the last year. I found it in my secret notebook stash. (muahahahaha!)

Ode to alcohol

My friend when no one else will answer my call

My courage when I can find none

My comfort when I need to forget

And my help when I need to remember

My only love

You steady my head

My hand

And my trigger finger

When this lonely drunk

Needs one last shot

I ike it - the word play is particularly inventive.

There's not great advice here for those who enjoy a dram or two, but it has a nice touch of darkest humour.

Thank you, Hillwalker.

Yes, it is a rather depressing poem I know... *evil laugh*

There's a sad beauty that most people could relate to this more than a poem about the love of another person!

Yeah, a bit of interesting wordplay there at the end. Don't mix those two up in real life, though.

This is really unimaginable when you have all of those great animals.

I too loved the word play in the ending. I would be more cryptic with the title and let the reader conclude. Nice Piece.

I laughed out loud when I read this quote. I don't know if it is necessarily a "sad beauty" rather than pathetic. Whichever the case, a humorous comment.

Kevin, I too liked the word play. A popular theme many can relate too. The poem was enjoyed!

It is one of the best odes to alcohol, regardless of anyone's recommendations.

I like the ambiguity of the last line.
