Since the big hummus debate is over, I think we should move onto the next burning issue:
Sushi: Aye or Nay?

I love vegetarian sushi with a lot of wasabi, my son doesn't like a cold dinner as he calls it so I always make it when he with his dad so it's my dinner about 4 times a month.

Can we get another poll option for "Aye."? I'd vote for that one. I like sushi but not exclamation point enough.

I bet the boys are Thankful who get this meal. :)
Edit: ( I won't mention the scenery, it would be off topic! )

I love sushi, so that's a definite YAY!

Definite nay. That's what frying pans and ovens were invented for.

I admit, I agree with you. I've never tasted it, and I wouldn't eat raw fish... unless my dinner companion was such that I didn't notice what I was eating.

And don't knock it until you have tried it!
It is no different from smoked salmon... And not to mention all the vegetarian varieties that do not contain raw fish.

Hmmm. Not a big fish lover. But apparently if you try something a dozen times, you grow to like it! Tuna is as far as I go at the moment!

Common mistake. Sushi isn't raw fish, it's the method of preparing the rice - you cook the rice and mix it with mirin and rice vinegar and voila you have sushi rice. The topping or filling can be whatever you like but most commonly would be some kind of fish (raw or cooked) or eel or omlette is a really common one and of course there is nori which is seaweed which is used a lot but not always, and then there are veggies which are common in norimaki. Personally I love inari which are pouches of tofu 'skins' filled with sushi rice.
The raw fish is called sashimi, rather than sushi.

I love sushi, I remember as a child it used to be quite uncommon here, served only at a few Japanese restaurants in the city. Now there are small sushi shops all over the place.

I vomited - sorry voted - nay... but was it vegetarian? Vegetarian sushi is nice. vegetarian sushi would be a yay. They sell it in sainsburys now for £3.50.

I don't like sushi. Like Helga's son, I don't like cold food. Sometimes I don't even like salad.
I have a friend who likes it, though, so occasionally I find myself eating at restaurants where whatever they serve looks like food from another planet. I find my tastes very mundane in such situations, even while being slightly revolted by all the weird food.

hehehe!! I'm quite selective about my companions.
I would definitely try the vegetarian form, though I didn't know it existed, and I had to google wasabi.
edit.. I just noticed Fifth Element's reply and learned more.

Definate yay!
The FifthElement beat me to the punch clarifying "sushi" as opposed to "sashimi".
Nothing like a chilled hunk of yellow tail or salmon, briefly dipped in a marinade of soy and wasabi, slide down the tongue. The rubber texture of octopus or squid is sensational. Rolls are delicious too, such as the "Claifornia roll".
Local Japanese restaurants are taking advantage of local critters too, such as "crawdad rolls". I would have to stop at raw perch or carp.

"The rubber texture of octopus squid is sensational." I just never thought I'd see "rubber" and "sensational" as describing something one would eat, lol.

My sister made the mistake of taking me to the Benihana sushi bar.
I do not share her love of Japanese cuisine and culture, and she knows this, but she was so sure that I would 'just love it if you try it!'
Needless to say, everything went down except the sashimi - it got spat out into the napkin!
She chastised me strongly for embarassing her! Lol!

Sushi.
It's fish. It's raw. It's cylindrical. It's down-right get-out-of-my-office unacceptable.

Aye
but this is one food where presentation is everything!
