oh that's a toughie---im strongly libertarian leaning, but am also really big into environmental and consumer stewardship...
I lean towards no---but somehow figuring out a way to make voluntary recycling highly desirable and rewarding (economically, socially, etc)
kite flying?
Clopin
04-27-2015, 06:12 PM
I had the same problem bounty did with that question, I also don't know much about the effectiveness of recycling, but if it is very good then, yes, it should be mandatory. Laws do exist for a reason.
Nay, I hate wind.

Nay. I like eating from the garden, but not the work. Ditto cooking, for that matter.
Cooking?
Pompey Bum
04-27-2015, 09:54 PM
I detest gardening. It's dirty and buggy and no fun at all. Cooking's okay because the reward is more immediate.
Chutney?
bounty
04-28-2015, 07:28 AM
I love gardening and am looking forward to this summer---although it does have its challenges and I wouldn't mind some of them disappearing. one year some geese ate all my radishes! and last year was horrible for growth with the cool and cloudy weather. i never succeed with peppers and weeding's a pain in the hind end.
I like some cooking---would like it more if I had a significant other to cook for.
chutney---slightly aye in micro doses.

I have had occasion recently to be using my laptop in a high speed internet area but I cannot log on to the forum for some reason in order to hunt them up. could you please send me the song titles and today i'll hunt them up that way.
oh that's too bad---I don't think theres any food I like that's disagreeable to me. I love pinjur.
I say aye to joan rivers, especially after she died and a handful of people whose views I respect spoke all sorts of wonderful things about her.

movies with sad endings?
Pompey Bum
04-29-2015, 08:10 AM
Aye, if the alternative is a forced happy ending.
I suppose nay, only because I would probably never really listen to him; it's not like I have anything particularly against him though.
Don't worry, I was just teasing Bounty, who expressed respect for those involved in Joan Rivers' funeral. Since Stern was one of them, I wanted to see how he would react. Personally I admired Rivers, although I find the world she lived in kind of slimy. I liked her humor, though, because it was fearless.

Baltimore rioters?
bounty
04-29-2015, 08:58 AM
laughs...howard stern wasn't one of the folks i was thinking of...smiles...
ive got mixed feelings about howard stern. I appreciate his sort of underdog makes his own way story, yet at the same time, he was pretty vile and tasteless in the process. I like now that he's one more mainstream in being a judge on one of those reality tv talent shows. I would call that being a sort of "force for good."
protesters aye, but major nay on the rioters. part of me wants to drop a net on them from a helicopter, scoop them up and drag them all off to the hoosegow.
if I were a business owner in the area, id be sitting out front of my store with a couple of friends and some shotguns and rocksalt. I think the national guard should have been doing likewise.
and law enforcement should be finding everyone who's done anything violent (burning, looting, throwing things at police) and hauling them in too.
so in keeping with joan rivers---red carpet reporting?

The increasing practice of revisionist history in Western Society?
All good history should be revisionist, as historians should constantly re-examine and re-evaluate their own methods and those of earlier historians. Also, historians' unjust and irrational ignoring, disparagement, or exclusion of marginalized people--e.g. women, Gays, and ethnic minorities--needs to be redressed to produce more accurate histories.

West Coast, West Coast, West Coast.
The current explosion of super-hero movies and TV shows?
Pompey Bum
05-06-2015, 12:26 PM
I just mean tailoring history to serve a modern political or social agenda, because history, especially revisionism in a technical sense, is supposed to do the opposite of that. It's supposed to be skeptical, not duplicitous.
Tough choice. I grew up in the NE and don't think I could ever quite "think" West Coast." My wife and I currently snowbird between New England and the Far East, which has been working out, but we are probably going to move the American end to the Southwest. So neither? Or if I really had to choose, probably home.

The end of Stadium Rock Bands as we use to know it? (arguably still around, but i disagree)
Pike Bishop
05-06-2015, 05:53 PM
Only Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Metallica, and maybe Muse could pack a stadium today, and Coldplay is hardly rock. Radiohead stopped being rock awhile ago. Rock just isn't the main popular or youth music anymore; hip-hop is...no matter how much that rankles the "old farts"
There are excellent rock bands left--e.g. Arctic Monkeys and Grizzly Bear--but they can't touch the popularity of Drake or Lil Wayne
