English Grammar Textbooks and the like

Next year I'm going to be teaching Freshmen College Grammar at a community college.

My only restriction is that it needs to be a textbook with exercises in it. Mostly, it just needs exercises.

I'm having troubles picking a textbook. I've looked at various teachers websites along with Amazon and other book dealers. I've mostly found the reviews and comments to be a form of disinformation.

I thought this site might give me a better pool of books to look for.

So far I'm leaning towards a diagramming textbook and/or workbook. What does everyone think of diagramming?

I wish I could help, Sulla, but it’s more likely I could use your help, being that I am the victim of a South Carolina pubic school education. Anyway, my only thought is to have them more or less memorize the 22 rules in Strunk and White. I know – no workbook exercises.
