Reading this book as a freshman, I found it extremely boring. However, after long classroom discussions and reading and rereading, I realized that Charles Dickens is a literary genius and that the book is filled with subtle jokes, metaphors, and amazingly effective succinct descriptions. However, the plot was very melodramatic and exaggerated, much like that of a soap opera, and I generally disliked the book as a whole.
