Indian Boy

I just finished reading "A Long Way Gone - Memoirs of a Child Soldier" by Ishmael Beau and let me say that I am disturbed by this author. Now I know that I'm supposed to smile at the end of the book and say "Oh what a great story! A child soldier rehabiliated!" but that's BS.
For those of you who haven't read the book let me give you a quick synopsis. Little African boy's village is destroyed and his family killed by rebels. Little African boy roams the jungles with his friends until he is recruited to fight for local army against the rebels. For years Little African boy endulges in excessive amounts of drugs, totes an AK47 and regularly kills other Africans including rebels. And when I say kills I don't mean he shoots them from a far off distance with some rifle in the midst of war. I mean he openly admits that he raids villages and shoots unarmed Africans in the face and slits their throats and watches them bleed out like some kind of psychotic killer.
Then one day Little African boy is removed from the war zone by UNICEF or some other NGO and Little African boy is rehabilitated! Hurray! Little African boy is beautiful and his soul is shining bright and he has written his memoirs and there's even a picture of him with a great smile on the back to show how wonderful and benevolent his is! Hurray! We love Little African boy!
Bullsht! I'm sorry, but am I the only one who finds it disturbing that Little African boy just finished killing people and now he cashes in on his sadistic murdering spree by writing a book about it? For those of you who disagree with me, let me save you some time. I get it. I really do. Little African boy is the victim here. His parents were killed and he was forced to join the army and forced to do drugs and forced to kill innocent Africans. I get the argument. I'm just not buying it. Bottom line - Little African boy is a ruthless killer, a sadistic animal with no compassion for humanity. How can a human being look into the eyes of another human being and slit his throat? I am disgusted that this African, Ishmael Beau, has become a successful author because of his participation in genocide. He deserves to have his own throat slit. I know that's a terrible thing to say, but it's true.
Hey! I have a great idea! Let's rehabilitate all the murderers and rapists sitting on death row! Oh, you poor things. Here's a pen. Write a story about all your murders and your rapes and then in the last chapter make sure you say you're sorry, and that you're totally rehabiliated. Then we'll put a big picture of you glowing with a smile on the back and hopefully we'll all make big money!!
