The devil to pay in the backlands, João Guimarães Rosa

Hello everybody!
I'd like to know if anyone here has read the english translation to Guimarães Rosa's masterpiece Grande Sertão: Veredas, titled in english as "The devil to pay in the backlands". It is undoubtedly my favourite book but I am very curious to know how do english readers feel about it.

I've heard about it but it is not very well known outside brazil. From what I read, it doesn't work well in translation since it is a complex work like Ulysses.
