A lady emerges from the icy lake
dressed in white silk
and floats into the storm beaten village.
Her hair is covered in kelp
and she sings melodically through the empty streets,
Come swim with me
I will set you free
The children snuggle under their quilts
and hold on fast to soft toys and plastic heroes
hoping to fend her off amidst the nightime thunder.
She smiles as she presses her face against their window
and waits patiently as each child sinks into a deadly slumber.
One by one, she enters the dreams of sleeping bodies
where the sun blazes eternal gold on a summer's day.
All the children romp by the shore of her watery prison.
They are entranced by the glimmer of the lake.
Take my hand she tells them
and like a daisy chain
she leads them into the cool, blue depths singing,
I will set you free.

A disturbing, Brothers Grimm-style dark fairytale that works very well, Delta and alludes to several tales and myths, but seems to be its own (although I could be wrong, and it could be based on one I'm not familiar with).

On reflection, I think the title is a bit too strong; perhaps something more subtle would work better. But it's still an enjoyably dark piece.

perhaps you're right about the title BV. I hadn't thought of Brother Grimm. I attended a play reading the other night and was inspired by one of them.

Is this the spoiler for Paranormal Activity 3? You just ruined it for me...

Nah, j/k, this is way better. It does seem to share that horror quality a lot of dark Grimm-esque folk tales have.
