colours flicker and fibre pulsates
patterns twist as it undulates
it lifts unsurely a couple of degrees
like sitting on a leaf in a mild breeze
seconds before it breaks away
a bit of swing and little sway
then it takes off and up we soar
on a night flight to Astralore
and meet with rug-riders just like us
who will chatter how it beats the bus
but of our carpets we must not tell
the wider world, or the skies'll be hell
everyone'll want one, that's for sure
the poor Rug-bloke will have to make more
but because he's the only one around
who can build (and fix them when they're down)
then there'll be less time for repairs
(after prangs) and our Heaven-chairs
shall await broken in the back room
for months ere again the skies we zoom
ducking and weaving through the clouds
scaling the heights midst icy shrouds
looking down upon the Earth below
from mountain high to sea level low
the city lights sprawl across the land
along rivers to the beachy sand
sparkling, twinkling like upside-down sky
and just as nice when you're up so high
for now my tale's said and done
I must to bed before the sun
