Hello,

I am new here.
I joined because I am trying to understand 'how books work'. I just started my 'writing career' and I feel I need some guidance before giving it a go.

I read, which, I guess, makes it easier. But I never really studied literature (rules etc) so...what makes a good story? How do I choose who tells it?

As a reader, I don't like thrillers because I just hate blood and when I tried to read a book from the King I just got a little scared (characters too ...obsessive and obsessed) but my brother loves them. So does every other person I know and when I tried to write a story (the beginning of it) one told me 'oh you lack suspense'...what? I love Jane Austen, there's nothing as such in her novels, is there?

Please help!
