View Full Version : The Music inside You

I've been haunting the "Let out the Artist in you" thread for a while, and was amazed at the creativity there. I was never any good at the visual arts, but hell I love treats for my eyes! Now it also made me want to see if some members are into music and interested to share their goodies. Turns out that some members are already sharing their music in that thread, but seeing that I almost missed Revolte's songs there (and I dont know if others have shared things there that I missed) I wanted a separate thread for just sharing music. I'd love to hear the music inside the people here, and I believe so will many others. If you've already shared your works in another thread and would want to share it in here again, please do so for people like me who missed out on all the fun! :p
As for myself, I used to sing a lot a few years ago, but like many other things I had to cut out on that after moving countries to go to university. I still sing whenever I can, but not like before. I dont write songs, or play any instrument, I just sing whatever songs I like. I'm not very good, but I have a passion for sounds. :)
Here's a Regina Spektor song that I sang a few months ago:

I know little about singing but I would say you may consider singing professionally. Also, if you are not completely satisfied with your achievements so far, taking it professionally would somehow push you into polishing your vocal techniques. I dare say I hear a very good basis already, and maybe it's time for it to take off :)

That's a great compliment for me Max. Thanks for listening to the song.

Thank you very much. I appreciate the feedback - you've made my day. Yeah, I wrote it, arranged it, sang it and played guitar on it. It was a very busy lunchtime.
Actually, I'm not sure the voice is so deep - but that close-miked, barely-projected recording technique does give the listening ear the impression that it's being muttered to. In fact I don't always sing in that register. I could link to a couple of others, I think, where I probably sound like Mickey Mouse with his tail caught in a car door.

Please share some more. :) I'm always in awe of music, and thus of the people who can create (good) music.
I'll share another one of my Regina Spektor covers, which I thought turned out pretty good...

... and an Iron & Wine song that I sang just yesterday to send to one of my best friends back home in Bangladesh, as a gift on her birthday.

Here's another. The reproduction on all these is a bit poor - I ought to remaster them straight to digital.

Uhm yes this last one was a little hard to decipher in terms of sound and lyrics. I dont know if it's just because of my earphones (which give an increased feeling of bass anyway) but it was somewhat difficult to make out much of the vocals...
But all in all, the songs sound so pro!

I dare say for a second time that you seem an artist to me, be it singing, be it reciting :) Did you do the whole sound edition by yourself? Even if you had help on it, it's quite a commendable effort. In my opinion, I have no further choice but to applaud and to toast :hurray: :cheers2:
I've bookmarked the page for further listens :thumbs_up

Thanks for sharing your work symphony!
It's really good. I had a look at your channel and I must say I quite like your Hindi/Urdu song yeh jhuki jhuki nazr as well!
As far as I am concerned, no matter how much I love singing I am just horrible at it especially when it comes to singing in foreign languages (yes even English which I have known since as long as I remember isn't it embarrassing). I sing quite alright in Urdu. Maybe I should share something soon. I doubt many people would understand it though.

Thanks so much guys! :D
I know I'm desperately in need of better recording tools, but I happen to be absolutely broke. I'm currently using a mic that's handmade by my boyfriend. :)
Max , yes I did the medley myself using a sound editing software that I recently started playing with. However, I took the materials from various sources (listed in the link), so none of the songs or poems or news/discussion bits are by me.
Pensive, please do post some urdu songs if you will! I love singing and listening to different languages, although I don't speak/understand them...

Wow, that is quite fantastic. No problem with sound quality on that one, either. I went ahead and listened to a few of your others, and the voice is just beautiful, and you aren't just getting lucky each time. You obviously can do a lot with it, I love the Regina Spektor songs (even though I haven't listened to her in AGES, and barely paid her any attention then--but maybe I should give her another chance, after hearing these...). And I am particularly disappointed that there's no backing instrumental track for you on Shape Of My Heart, I really want to hear you do that one done up right.
Glad you have a track out there with recording quality that does justice to you now, and please be encouraged by these comments of mine to keep singing and posting.

Thanks so much qimissung and bill, warm comments like these mean a lot to me. Bill, I'll surely try doing that song if I get a good instrumental track out there somewhere. The sound quality problems are unfortunately still on, as I lack the proper equipments, but I've got a good sound-editing software now and it's quite fun to play around with. :)

Hi and thanks Snowqueen! I don't understand/speak Urdu, although I understand some of the words that the language shares with Hindi (because I understand much of modern Hindi). I'm from Bangladesh and only speak Bangla and English myself, but I love to sing in different languages.

Okay, I've been working on this one for a while. Took some time to get a fitting vocal match for the beat, which is a bit closer to a rock and roll/folk/blues mix, especially with harmonica back in action after not having used it for years.

The mighty LitNet says I haven't been active in too long a time. Since I haven't been writing for a while now, I thought the only way to share anything of value is to bump this thread up from the deep dark chasms of General Chat. Now that I look at it, most of the links I shared here are no longer valid -as my blog site decided to close itself down and soundcloud sets a strict limit on uploads making me delete some of my older songs. I have most of them still on youtube, though. And here's one that's probably my most recently done english song cover:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=924vhDBsBac
Jackie darling, your soundcloud link seems to have died as well. Mind uploading a new one? (Pretty please?)
