where is this quote from?

and cecil replied "I expect your father has been reading Dante"

I've been leafing through some of Dante's work but I haven't been able to find any reference of it. Does anyone know where this is from?

I believe it is from canto four, but I'll find out for sure tomorrow. Which chapter of the novel is this from? Context may help.

I wrote a paper once comparing Plato's allegory of the cave, Dante's sky imagery, and I think there was a third one.
