Those happy moons

Attrocious nymph,
Why seem you to approach me
At night, when waking up again
I wish to take for granted?

Is it because of age?
Would all my old school mates
Recognize you? Or are you
Merely guilt? A punishment for all
Those happy moons I've given
To my cigarettes, and noone else?

Loose ends you point out
Have hovered here for years
And you expect them tidy and neat
Before sunrise? Or do you use them only
As evidence that makes you justified?

If for a minute you would stay the same
My understanding would be more complete.
Enough. So be it; come lie on my sheets.
I'll let your horrid grasp arrest my heart.
I'll let your razor kiss cut at my breath.

Stylistically this was quite an adventurous stab at classical poetry - which you pull off rather well except for 'my old school mates' which shatters the vision of you sharing your troubles with the likes of John Donne or Wiliam Blake.

Death as a nymph... how terrible, ageless, faithful death... in whose face our time reflects, when its our time.
Good verse, Doc, best.
