Hi, there everyone!
Before you read please note that English is not my native language(I'm Dutch).
This is my first post, if people like it I can post more of the same story.
BTW it's a zombie infection story, just a heads up ;).
They're Walking
Derek was on his knees, packing his backpack, he put his water bottle in the side pocket of his pack so he could easily get it out when he was thirsty. He heard someone coming up the stairs and looked at the doorway, his friend Daniel entered the room. “Done packing yet?” Daniel asked. “Because I am getting tired of this **** hole of a town, tell me again why we went here in the first place?” Derek closed his backpack stood up and got it on his back. “Yes I’m done packing, the reason we are here is because this “**** hole of a town” has a low population so it has less of them walking around...” Derek replied while walking up to the window in the front of the house.
Looking out at the empty street he could see that this was once a peaceful town, with houses right next to each other and a playground on the corner, you could say this was a friendly neighborhood. Now weeks after the infection, the neighborhood looked empty and quiet in a scary sort of way, a car had crashed into the swing on the playground, another car had been abandoned in the middle of the street, with blood smeared on the windshield. The house on the other side of the road had its front door smashed in, and you could see a trail of blood leading from the door into the house.
Derek had thought there was a market or at least some kind of convenience store in this town, but there was not even a gas station. The town they were in was a small rural town in the south of the country. Daniel was right, coming to this town was not the best idea he had come up with. The upside was that they had not encountered any infected since they got here. But their supplies were running low, considering this Derek said: “But I guess your right Daniel, we need to get to a city which at least has a store. A gun store would be a nice find as well, I’ve only got one clip left, what about you?” Daniel checked his trousers back pocket and replied: “I’ve got half a clip and a backup, we are lucky that this place is so goddamn deserted.” At this point they hear a loud bang coming from downstairs.
They looked at each other and both pulled out their gun, Derek held a finger in front of his mouth indicating they should be quiet. Daniel walked in front of Derek and went through the doorway that led into the corridor. They continued to go downstairs, still being very quiet they entered the hallway. A cool wind was blowing through the house, the front door was open so they know the loud bang they heard had come from the door. Derek pointed to the toilet door, Daniel went to the side of the door and opened it so that Derek could hold anything at gun point if something was in there. But the room was empty. The only other door led to the kitchen, Derek was now walking in front and so far he could see that the kitchen was empty. In these sort of situations they would always be very quiet, and they would listen very carefully for any noise they hear. Derek could hear a sniffing noise, as if someone was crying. Not yet lowering their guns they continued slowly in to the kitchen, the noise continued but it seemed to be coming from behind the cooking isle. Derek went into a crouching position and peeked around the corner. There sat a girl on the ground, sobbing with her head against her knees.
