I hear you feel abandoned
like a cat stuck in a tree
And as the rain pours,
your pride is soaked
by waterlogged gum leaves.
It takes a like mind
to urge you to claw your way back.
Back into the bustling crowd
of everydaysameness
where instant coffee
is the special of the week
and everyone walks a mongrel.
They, like you have long been neutered.
As isolation pulls you lower,
you land gracefully yet ungrateful.
As the garbage truck crawls alongside
the uneven cracked pavement,
showering you with tv dinner leftovers
I hear you hiss then spit
that we are all beneath you.

Hot soaked in mediocrity - it reminded me a bit of Bruce Dawe (of whom you'll have to do your own searches and/or purchases - there's a lot out there, but not much in one place)

He also wrote of urban suburbia, walking to the shop and picket fences, three legged cats and magpies in the gutter (not exclusively, but you get the idea)

(Actually he's one of my favorites. When I find a comprehensive link I'll post it)

(This is a compliment Delta :) )

"everyone walks a mongrel" is splendid! "I hear you hiss the spit" should probably be moved to the line before the last.

Good suggestion Prince. Edited. I will google Bruce Dawe as soon as I have finished Alan Ginsberg.

Anyone have any thoughts on his poetry?

I like his social commentary.
