View Full Version : Ah-tissue!

So I've invested in a new box of Kleenex tissues after catching (and being seduced by) a television advertisement promoting their inrivalled 'softness'. They are the SilkTouch line, and they really are quite exceptional - overpriced perhaps, but a remarkable technological innovation nevertheless. And as I'm always up for a new challenge I decided to give the blighters a go.
Now normalarily I'm a 'Mansized' tissue consumer (you may be familiar with the distinctive red and black packaging), and tend to try other brands/styles over the reception desk or whilst visiting - I do recall with terror a particular variety that had surreptisiously impregnated with particles of aloe vera for some misguided and devilish reason, which, in an attempt to clean my sunglasses resulted in smearing the lenses with the muck, so that everything appeared to be a vaseline coated daydream.
I was wondering do the Litnetters possess a personal preference for the grade or brand of nosewipe they incorporate into their daily mucus removal techniques? Are cotton handkerchiefs still employed by anyone? Sleeves perhaps?
What are your thoughts?

Haha! That'll teach you not to look on the label!
Anyway, I prefer the normal kitchen paper to any type of tissues. Why? Because the things they dare to sell for nose-whipe purposes are so flimsy they don't last even one blow of my nose. And I'm a woman.
So I have reverted to normal kitchen paper because that lasts m much longer when I don't have a cold and it doesn't have pretences based on which they an ask for double or triple the price. :D Win win.

When I have a cold, I use hankies. Tissue paper gradually feels like sand paper if used too much. Otherwise, I buy the cheapest for practical here and there use.

I for the most part carry a cotton handkerchief, but I have been known to keep a box of Kleenex brand in my truck for guests. I think that the old 'hanky' is the cheapest and most environmentally friendly option. Just don't put spare coins or keys in the same pocket heh heh

I use toilet paper. I can meter out the right size I need. I resent the tissue manufacturer for assuming my tissue needs, I find the current tissue size to be to big and a bit of a waste. I either have to throw out a partially used tissue or carry around my excretions like a little treasure. Toilet paper, I use two squares and done.

Ditto. If you use loo-roll, you can immediately flush it when you're done. And if you're not on mains sewage, it breaks down in the septic tank far quicker than a thicker bought tissue does.

Toilet paper is my preference also although we do have tissues, but no handkerchiefs.
I didn't know they made handkerchiefs any more, but then I didn't realize they sold popcorn in a container rather than the ready-made microwave pouches until I saw them in Costco yesterday.

If I'm really sick and constantly drippy I'll wear a handkerchief around my neck to blow into.

I have a teacher who insists that, to conserve tissues, all of us in her class blow our noses four times on each tissue (once in each corner). Someone pointed out that the tissues were double-sided and two-ply, thereby disgusting the entire class.

I only buy Puffs. I have a very delicate nose...and I have allergies...and I work with very young children and am exposed to a ridiculous amount of germs on a daily basis. I have to take care of my nose. :p
