"Mama! Mama, when are we going to stop running? I'm really tired Mama."
"I know baby, I know. I know you're tired, but we need to keep going. Mama's too tired to carry you so you need to stay strong for me and keep running ok?"
"I'll try Mama, but I really don't think I..."
My sentence was cut off by a loud "WHOOSH" that flew past my head, followed by my mother's blood spraying onto my face. It all happened so quickly that I couldn't even bring myself to scream. All I could make my body do was crawl over to her and shake her. Not even the word "Mama" came out. I already knew she was dead, but my body hadn't quite gotten the message yet. As I sat there staring at what was, only a few moments ago, my very alive mother, the trackers surrounded me. I knew it was my turn to die, but I didn't feel fear. I looked at them with the same empty gaze they looked at me with. I felt the bullet that left his gun go through my body. It hurt, a lot, but I wasn't afraid of the pain. I knew it meant I would get to see Mama again, so it was ok. The last sight I saw was my own blood staining the pure white snow. Honestly, it wasn't as pretty as all those books Mama used to read said it was. It was just...blood. Nothing more and nothing less. I closed my eyes, and thought one final thought. "We are free."
