I write in the blank of death

Claiming the soul unrhythmic
Unlike the birds that construct
Or the women who fabricate

The devoid savors sanity in despair

One feels somehow that so much has been withheld and we are provided only enough to feel the pain.

Who are the women, what are they fabricating and why? What is the 'devoid' and why does it 'savor sanity'?

This reader cannot draw conclusions.

I like the opening line - but what follows is not easy to interpret.

I'm not sure what the 'soul unrhythmic' is meant to be, but assume the narrator is unable to foresee a future (unlike the birds that nest or the women who plan ahead for raising their families possibly?) - and presumably the narrator is also the one who is devoid, holding onto sanity.

Not an easy piece but quite enigmatic.

Wonderful poem.

I perceive the key to this nugget is in the title "Treatment". For years my own writing was an escape, a catharsis; now a joy.

My interpretation:

I write in the blank of death ~ in the absence of death (I am alive, so what, so I write) - my Treatment)

Claiming the soul unrhythmic ~ I do not perceive my soul/spirit/being to be in harmony with the world/reality

Unlike the birds that construct ~ unlike nature

Or the women who fabricate ~ nor those who are active in (my perception of) productive lives

The devoid savors sanity in despair ~ I (the empty soul), delights/finds sanity/meaning (in writing?) even in despair

Perhaps way off the mark, but it works for me.

Thank you for sharing.

Thanks everyone. It's about pain, but it's not exactly it. This writer couldn't draw conclusions either when she wrote.:skep: And tailor, that's very close!

Aching, but I can't say I understand. It still retained my attention, thanks.
