Hi all
I am hoping to employ the collective knowledge of the forum to help me with my research.
I am seeking examples from literature, from mythology or fables which echo this storyline:
The protagonist has spent a lifetime failing to achieve a much-cherished goal.
As the story begins, he at long last comes across a golden opportunity to achieve success.
However, in the process of taking advantage of this opportunity, through foolishness, he badly squanders his last chance.
A slightly different version of the story is this:
An 'outsider' is at long last tentatively welcomed into the fold. But he finds that he can't fit in.
Is he refusing to fit - or are the 'insiders' refusing to let him?
many thanks in advance for any suggestions -
Kirk
