When having a bowl of pasta do you prefer long noodles or short?
Long:

Definitely long. I like mastering the art of twirling just the right amount round my fork!

I'm a short, I just don't like to work that hard.

I like pretty much like any type of noodle, but the short noodles like in the picture above are more difficult for me to eat. The only technique I use on that kind of pasta is stabbing it with the fork, and it doesn't work so great. I pretty much stock only long noodles, for simplicity's sake, but I like to have 2 or 3 thicknesses to choose from.

Short is more manageable. Trying to eat long pasta is not hot.

Depends how hungry I am - if I'm starving I like it really long, but if I'm snacking then I don't mind it short - so usually for long for main meals (angel hair preferably)
(Chinese invention you know - Marco Polo brought it back to Italy, and the rest is history ;) )

I like both, though the long type has always been a more regular visitor at my table. Besides, I also like mastering the art of twirling just the right amount round my fork, same as Delta.
I will vote for long, because of the training required for its proper handling.

Penne are my favourite for short. You can namely stick your fork in the whole (even manage that with two or three at the same time), so no fork-stabbling required. Farfalle are another favourite, mainly for quite sticky sauce with small bits that stick to it. Fusili are difficult to eat.. There is not much more we can get here, so that about it.
But I like eating long pasta. No problem twirling... It was quite a task when I was five and halfway through my mother used to cut it up because the effort was too great, but ever since I have eaten it nicely with fork and spoon, and since like 5 years even only with a fork.
I was in the local Italian two weeks ago and ordered long pasta with something. The guy serving was Brazilian. So although there are genuine Italians walking around, none were in sight at that particular time. Pasta comes, cutlery comes with a spoon, I take my fork and start eating... The guy comes again and hands me another spoon and then walks past our table several times again as if working out why the hell he has handed me two spoons and I am still only eating with a fork...

My feeling is that the messier the food, the tastier it is. Therefore, even with sauce from the same pot, spaghetti is more delicious than penne.

Are you sure that saying is about food?

 I can just hear you announcing that at dinnertime, Scher, as you put those bowls of spaghetti and meatballs down in front of your flatmates. hehe.
I prefer long-and skinny. Thin spaghetti is longer than fat. Good thing I'm not a cannibal, I guess. :D
Also, I slurp. The Chinese are great believers in slurping their noodles, or so I've heard.

What an odd question...
Well, I like both - but I'm much more likely to make a mess with long pasta, so I guess the short wins with me!

Looooooooooooooooong because I can do it. (I was taught how to eat spaghetti when I used to be a bar staff in a restaurant). The mess is neither here nor there. I can get sauce down me in any situation - particularly if I've got something newly washed, new, or prominant on, or if it is particularly stainy. It's always stainy.

As I understand it different sauces compliment different types of pasta better because the shape, length, and such hold certain sauces better. See this chart (http://www.chow.com/food-news/54492/when-pasta-met-sauce/).
So basically it depends on what you're planning to do with the pasta.

Definitely long. It's what I usually use (unless I use bowtie pasta).

Haha, I know what you mean.
I was answering yesterday and had so much thought about pasta that I went off my coffee. The taste just did not appeal to me anymore...
