I splash about in the pool of my heart
surprised my feet don't touch the bottom.
If I was a mermaid tangled in starfish and kelp,
I would plunge into the aquaeous depths,
far beyond the fathoms of superficial love
in search of ventricular rockweed that pulsate
unconditional relics of bygone devotions
till once again I am washed up in the shallows.

I love that the narrator can't touch bottom. The heart is indeed unfathomable-- and fathomless.

Another mind-blowing read Delta, though I got the sense of 'swimming pool' at first, rather than what you were actually referring to, and I continued with that image waiting for it to return - maybe rockpool or similar for clarity

It reads like your breath of life! and even if you weren't a mermaid..

I'd prefer you aligned your poems to the left. Reads more easily. Only the question of taste, probably. A lovely poem.

The last line made me sad but how glorious the whole of it is - the flow as fluid as the water conceit.

Thank you everyone. I thought I would try my hand at something romantic as I'm not very good at love poems. This is as close as I got!
