The pegs on the wire keep asking for bread,
the worms suck on crumbs
from the grass
for the dead.
The dead need no bread,
nor spirits or sons,
no need to be raised
from their bed.
The bed has no lust for a stone,
no vase
no coloured glass
no need to be alone.
The man has no need
to share love
to give spark
to his creed.

Can't fathom it. Like it. Eager to see the responses that will perhaps share the light that cruelly does not shine on this reader's intellect.

feels like a stream of consciousness here just tumbled out onto the floor for you to pick up in pieces and post. still excellent and Jerryesque.

An incredible read.

Haven't a clue; I'll guess allusions to Jerry Garcia.

Apart from the opening line (which I'm still trying to figure out) I felt this was a rather dispirited reflection on how little use the dead have for what they are given by those of us who survive - a headstone, a vase, some fancy coloured gravel... At the end of it all we are just labels that fade over time.

I could be a mile away from this one though. But it still packs a punch even if it's below the belt.

This poem is matter-of-fact and despairing all at once. The dead have no need of anything and we are all wasting our time...
