-Isabel-

Had a vision of my overseas belle
She with me and I was her fella;
Yet even comely skies could not deliver
The charm that lay in my Isabella.

I wandered on steep hills to catch a glimpse
On fairway greens her name I would yell;
Yet even stormy skies could not deliver
My starry-eyed maiden I call Isabel.

I gazed a last time from the chapel heights
Opining to heaven: there may I one day dwell?
Over the sea beyond my distant dreams
To that isle that hide my beautiful Isabel.

Has an atmosphere to this one for sure. Really enticing write. My favourite line: "I gazed a last time from the chapel heights"

I like the variations of name forms. There's a lot going on for it being not overly long.

It's got a folk-song ring to it but some of it was clumsy to read. Wouldn't discard this one, though- in this reader's opinion a heavy revision could be very fruitful.
