I'm a very new fan of Ernest Hemingway, and, as often happens when I discover that I really like an author, I want to grab all of his major works. A Moveable Feast is of particular interest, but I've noticed that there's a newly edited version making waves among Hemingway readers. I've heard conflicting opinions about whether the original or the new version is the better read, and I don't really know which one to go with.

Could anyone who has read both versions share which they liked better, for whatever reason?

I have read the original and I thought the order of chapters made perfect sense as it was - but each chapter is very much an isolated story so the order of chapters does not affect the book greatly.

Whatever he says, hahaha! No, save thy breathe, Bacchus has grow wearisome of such jests! Young god that he thinks he is. However, Dear God, the uncultured American, your supplicant, did love reading about Medea. The witch!

I did not read the original and read the version in which his widow changed the order of the chapters. This, you should be aware of, as it does change the nature/meaning of the book, slightly. I realized this. It is true that each chapter is a story into its own.

At first, I disliked it, but as I went back and reread it, I was able to experience the richness. You are like a fly on the wall and you can understand the chaos of a writer's mind. Hemingway is the people's writer, in a sense.
