I know a girl called Helen,
she doesn’t come from Sparta,
(I had to look up where it is
on Microsoft Encarta.)

This lady ain’t a beauty,
in fact she’s rather plain;
I can’t imagine going to war
to get her back again.

But all the ships in harbour
would sail upon the tide,
if Helen came a courting
and sought to be a bride.

So you needn’t be a beauty
to launch a thousand ships;
an ugly bird can do it too
by prowling round the slips.

I wrote this last August and forgot about it. I don't think I've posted it before but if I have, I think it can bear the exposure - lol.

Not seen this one before, Hawk. Witty but with your usual touch of class.

I assume (even though she's not from Sparta) that she had a ready supply of Trojans.

Very witty and a perfect example of when rhyme works best.

Cheers Twota :D

Hill Thanks though your second comment makes her sound like a regular, on-line Typhoid Mary! Viruses, get it? Oh well, please yourselves - lol.

Thankee Delta, we aim to entertain :D

Microsoft Encarta? Was this written in the '90's? ;) Dashing new avatar, BTW.

The Microsoft Encarta seemed odd to me and I assume was there for the rhyme with Sparta, but it flowed well and the idea was nicely conveyed. I was a bit confused with "prowling round the slips". I can sort of imagine what she is doing however.

ea: I'm just an old magpie. I don't throw anything out until it stops working (and sometimes not even then - lol) Glad you like the avatar, I knicked it from the Louvre. :D

Y/N: Yes, Encyclpoedia Britannica didn''t rhyme :) and slips, as in places where you launch ships, the prowling of (with intent to commit matrimony) - inducing flight :D

yuka: I wouldn't trust his judgement - lol. Glad you liked it.
