Hello, I've literally just joined this forum, with a tale to tell;
There I was, aimlessy searching (the internet) for the title of a book that I read at the tender age of 10. Suddenly, it dawned on me that I'd be better off just joining a forum with a bounty of literature vampires (meant in the nicest possible way).
Thus, I have arrived.
I'm an English Lit. student with no eyebrows and narcissitic tendencies... and I say "student", whereas I actually mean I'm studying it as one of my a levels. Our summer assignment was to read Frankenstein as many times as possible, and any other "gothic" or "horror" novel we could cram in.
The idea appealed to me, but with 7 novel-cum-doorstops to read within a month, it's not so appealing anymore; I have furniture to paint black and Giger-esque paintings to paint. Paint.
But I don't have eyebrows.
I realise that my introduction has turned into some sort of strange rant, veering towards the rambling, scatty, erratic route, and is so much longer than all the other ones I've read. All the better to read me like a book with.
I like to think I can write and that I'm good at it. Obviously, I'm a diva , and can write for miles. Overall quality of the content is often questionable, like.
I start writing an epic novel, get past the first 3 pages and it slowly drowns in an oceon of procrastination. That, and I can't write a page without naughty swear words and NIN references. At least I don't use the word "melancholy" 15 times per paragraph.
My favourte genre is whatever it is that Phil Rickman write. I love his novels, but in a weird kind of way. Not like, full on romantic love with chocolates and kisses and suchlike, but like a mother cat half-heartedly defending her kittens when her owner picks one of them up, and is all: "OH MY LOOK IT'S A KITTEN AWW", and the mother cat is all "well blatantly". Why do cats own us?
My favourite genre is a kind of horror/thrill/paranormal/occasional sci-fi/crime mish-mash. I'm trying to refrain from using the term "gothic" because I'm not saying that for the sake of my overwhelming gothness. The only book I've read which is remotely gothic is "Frankenstein", and it didn't blow my mind that much.
I tried to read "Dracula" around 6 or 7 years ago. The proper Bram Stoker-y version and everything. This summer, I've tried reading it again. Got a chapter further than last time, anyway. This version even has a still from the film our Bela starred in and everything, and I still can't read it.
I'm from Wales, which is on planet earth.
With that, after confusing many, many people, I must leave, for it is already tomorrow and I keep forgetting what I've put.
I'm glad to have joined this forum, though. In all seriousness I really love to read, it's a huge passion of mine and I'm definitely pursuing it to university and beyond. Night/Morning/Afternoon/Evening all!
