Pigboy Crabshaw
came through Moab.
I heard him
on the scarp.
Not some
cyber-bifurcation,
but with Butter
on the harp.

I heard them there
quite clearly,
it was Pigboy's
mournful wail,
with Maria
on the high notes,
like a comet,
and a tail.

Some might say
it was the mescal,
or a remembered
happy dream,
but I am sure
that it was Pigboy,
the way the guitar
screamed.

Amazing little poem - love the evocative names and the water-tight descriptions :

like a comet / and a tail

was a particularly memorable image. And the rhyme does what it's meant to do - no more, no less. Reading this made my morning that much cheerier.

Absolutely brilliant Munkin. That first stanza set such a sky high standard that I awaited to be let down as I read on, but no, you kept it going all through to the guitars scream.

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.

if like me you could never imagine writing three such exquisite and perfect stanza's show some love.

This is the closest thing to perfection I have read in 14 litnutter months.

feel it drip from your lips.

I can even quote hill 'amazing' to give my opinion gravitas.

Thanks guys. It is a silly little tribute to some of my favorite musicians, Elvin Bishop,
Paul Butterfield, and Maria Muldaur.

Sorry for the late comment. I've come back to this wonderful poem a number of times to enjoy. Ah, Maria - what a voice.

Would do well as a tasty set of lyrics (Metallica come's to mind for some reason).

I wonder if "Rolling Stone" magazine accepts poetry.

Thank you for sharing this gem of a poem.

I can appreciate the tone and rythm of this poem, even if the specific references escape me. Great read.
