Ok, so I plan to start another one of Jean Auel's books. I started it before but never got that far. I'm looking for something else to read this summer as well. I haven't went on a reading binge for a while, and I'm at a point in my life where I don't have many distractions and I have a job where I make a comfortable amount of money and the time to do as I please. Anyway, I like books that are complex. I've found that except for the top tier, fantasy books, sometimes even the ones with complex settings and unique scenarios, tend to have poor quality. However, I have enjoyed reading a number of D&D novels and I really like the older sword and sorcery novels and stories with the more subtle complexities that bring a smirk to your face as you start to understand what's going on. My favorite book is Crime and Punishment. My favorite character from any book is Socrates(though Dunbar from Catch 22 was pretty cool). I haven't read through all of many plays(except a little bit of Shakespeare), though Ive definitely started over a thousand that I just couldn't get interested in. I like novels that contain elements of anthropology, history, psychology, philosophy, and especially ecology(by that I don't mean conservationist stuff, but the study of ecology and its application). So far, I've taken a liking to all the Classical Literature I've read. I liked The Good Earth enough to read it three times. I think it's probably the most complete novel I've ever read. It covers such a long period of time with such completeness and detail over such a short number of pages. I'd like to find something else with that type of perfection in structure. Please don't recommend Tolstoy. Although Anna Karenina was well written and it kept me interested, I didn't really feel that it was worth the time that I put into it afterwards. Also no Kant, I don't have that kind of time. Actually, just novels please. So, anyway, I've been here a long time and I know everyone has a million suggestions. Can I get a little detail?

Based on these interests "anthropology, history, psychology, philosophy, and especially ecology" I might suggest the following:

A Passage to India
Things Fall Apart
There Eyes Were Watching God
The Kingdom of this World
Cry the Beloved Country
The Old Man and the Sea
Neuromancer
The Grapes of Wrath
Moby Dick
Midnight's Children
The Hero with a Thousand Faces (this one's non-fiction)

I'd look some of these up if you haven't already and see if any of them sound appealing. Probably some of them won't, but maybe some will.
