TEARS OF THE SUN
Icicles hang,
Crystalline and pure
Like tear drops
Frozen in time
An encapsulated moment
Of joy or sorrow?
Held in icy limbo
Until the sun
Releases the tears
FLAKES OF WHITE
Dancing on the breeze
Crystal flakes of white
Tell the winter tale
THE LANDSCAPE IS DESERTED
The landscape is deserted
The lake is frozen,
The reeds heavy with frost
And the Ducks have flown south
The snow lays deep
And Deer have meandered
To greener pastures
The songbirds have migrated
Leaving trees bare and empty
Though the sky is clear blue
And the sun bright
It holds no warmth
And the air is fresh and cold
THE CHILD COMES ALIVE
The child in us all
Comes alive when it comes
It has the uncanny knack
To chase away the glums
I still get excited
Just thinking about it
And when it starts
I don’t want it to quit
The child in me comes alive
It really excites me so
When I hear someone say
“It’s starting to snow”
FROM THE OLD
From the old,
The sick,
And the weary,
To the young,
The active,
And the teary
One thing I’ve come to know.
Is everyone loves the snow
FIRST FLURRY
Amidst the first flurry
People start to hurry
And urgently scurry
For the very first sight
The first glimpse of white
The heart takes flight
I’ve come to know
When it first makes a show
How much I love the snow
WINTER SCENE
Winter seen through
Frosted glass,
With picture windows
Sugar-framed
THE FIRST FLURRIES
The first flurries of the white,
Began to fall at twilight
Though until the dawn
So by the next morn
Everything lay below
A carpet of fresh white snow
CAREFULLY CRAFTED
A carefully crafted snowman
Round and fat
Sits on the front lawn
Wearing Daddies hat
WINTER DELIGHT
Building snowmen
Having snowball fights
Rejoicing in mischief
Is the winter delight
WINTER HAS COME
Winter has come
The land has gone
A white shroud
Covers the lifeless form
WINTER HELL
The lake is frozen,
Nothing lives
In this frozen hell
Even the sky is desolate
Save for the crescent moon
Standing sentinel
SOFT BLANKET OF WHITE
A silent soft blanket of white
Had hidden the land from sight
It’s our job to investigate the crime
Really we want to have a good time
We sledge and we toboggan
Build the world’s biggest snowman
We have a massive snowball fight
Doing battle till the enemy took flight
Then we stomp thru the powdery crunch
Making our way home to have lunch
THE MELTING SUN
The last deep orange glow
Of the setting sun
Slipped beyond the horizon
Like it was melted
By its own heat
Sending the world into the darkness
Of the fast approaching night
MARBLED SKIES
Marbled skies of broken cloud
Coloured with blues and greys
In the frosty air of winters bite
The marbled skies of winter days
YOU ARE THE BONNIEST CHILD
You are the bonniest child
Cute from head to toe
You melt our hearts
As you joyfully go
For your first time
Out to play in the snow
Icicles hang,
Crystalline and pure
Like tear drops
Frozen in time
An encapsulated moment
Of joy or sorrow?
Held in icy limbo
Until the sun
Releases the tears
