What is this crystalline fog?
The angle your breath takes
as it escapes
is somehow familiar,
but I cannot fit you inside.

I cut myself on your sharp edges.
Though I try to keep it there before me,
I can scarcely recall your face.

As I turn away,
I do not know who you were,
and I cannot remember
why we held each other.

I feel about confused between crystalline fog as if it were a memory and cutting yourself on the sharp edges of it.

Hi Hack. I too am slightly thrown by that opening line. It sort of hints at drug use but I could be way off here.

The overall tone of the poem is mournfully reflective and communicates a tragic sense of loss.

Hawk you are right (as you often are).
It is a moment of time in a drug house.
I never touch the stuff myself, but I have
seen the devastation, up close and personal.
I've seen them come and I've seen them go.
It is a sad, long suicide attempt.
