Hi all,
A forum member suggested I repost my question here, which is, basically, that I'm looking for suggestions for new authors based on the books below that I really, really enjoyed.
Thanks!

At Home at the End of the World - Michael Cunningham
Portrait of a Lady - Henry James
Suite Francaise - Irene Nemirovsky
Atonement - Ian McEwan
The Glass Room - Simon Mawer
Norwegian Wood - Haruki Murakami
Middlesex - Jeffrey Eugenides
What is the What - Dave Eggers

And some short story collections:
The Things They Carried - Tim O'Brien
Lost in the City - Edward P. Jones
Interpreter of Maladies - Jhumpa Lahiri

It's great to finally come across someone else who's read Simon Mawer. The Glass Room is a beautiful book, sparsely and imaginatively written. An underrated writer.

It seems we have quite similar tastes in books. I would recommend you try out:

Remainder or Men in Space by Tom McCarthy
Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell
The Sailor from Gibraltar by Marguerite Duras
In a Strange Room by Damon Galgut
Disgrace by J M Coetzee
The Quickening Maze by Adam Foulds

If you like Norwegian Wood by Murakami you might also like Sputnik Sweetheart or South of the Border, West of the Sun by him also. He also has a new book coming out this year called 1Q84 which sounds really interesting. Kafka on the Shore is also an interesting read.

Um, that's all I can think of off the cuff but I'll peruse my shelves later and something, I'm sure, will leap out at me and I'll kick myself for having forgotten about it.

If you have enjoyed lost in the city by Edward P. Jones then you should try "all aunt hagar's children" and - mostly - The Known World.
