My next door neighbour and I
and God were engaged
in a spirited conversation.
My next-door neighbour,
Steve, was concerned
about an older guy up the block
who paid a lot of attention
to some area kids.
There was 4-year old Owen
with his blonde, floppy hair;
5-year old Sora, who breathed amiability
the way others breathe air,
and 2 ˝-year old Nanna,
the still point of the universe.
“I get a creepy feeling,” Steve said,
“the way he seems to light up
when he talks to them.”
“Dude,” I answered, “he’s a grand-father.
All of his kids live out of town.
He misses them.”
We turned to God
for the deciding opinion, but God,
as usual, said nothing.
