Bacon, eggs and mushrooms
sizzle in my pan

A ball of wool to dig your claws into
by the fire as if you had brought down
the biggest antelope in the Savannah
I can hear the lion roaring inside.
The trickling sound of me having a wee
drives you to your kitty tray where you
tell me in no uncertain terms
I can do that too and even finish before you!
You shred the sheets of toilet paper and I sigh

You leap tall buildings in your superhero mind
and I make sure you don't get crushed as you dash
from one place to the next.
Your ungratefulness ladders my stockings
as you imagine bounding down a paraded street
snapping up bouquets of fish you think you deserve.
I yank you up by the scruff
swinging you gently like a pendulum as I murmur

The unceremonious end of your self adoration
reminds you of your tinyness and you cry
behind a skyscraper door that even
your white tipped paws cannot prise open.
Feline roars shrink down to frightened squeaks
Defeat flavoured biscuits take all the courage
out of your mighty soul and finally
you curl up next to the tray
and sleep.
