This is the judgment of the sun
on trolls who leave the shelter
of their caves by day.

Obsidian heart now still
and flaking into razorblades
used as embalmer’s tools.

Chip, chip, chip -
nothing but a quarry
for your ornaments.

Brittle flesh eroded over time,
with scars dulled by lichen
and moss plasters.

I'm thinking of some deadwood place for trolls....I have heard of the game but am absolutely ignorant of it so I've let my imagination guide me to the brittle moss covered pit of nothingness and felt hollow.

I don't understand this poem though have enjoyed its sounds and (to me) mysterious atmosphere. thanks from Bar

Thanks Delta & Bar. There was a problem with the mixing of metaphors in S3, which I have sorted. I think it works better now. Not a jolly poem I'm afraid but I don't seem to have one in me at the mo. You seem to have got the right impression, Delta, although this troll is on his own and his only visitor comes with a rock hammer. :) I'm not familiar with the game you mentioned.

Glad you found it atmospheric, Bar - but I hope my blue streak doesn't last too long.

Live and be well - H

That's interesting, Delta. But I was thinking of the Egyptian Embalmers who used obsidian flakes as scalpels during the mummification process. They were much sharper and more durable than bronze blades.

I think the 2nd and 4th verses stand out when compared to 1 and 3 that are rather prosaic in comparison... almost like you wrote 2 separate poems and tried to weld them together.

Thanks for reading, hill. sorry for the delay in replying. Certainly I'd agree that S3 isn't all it could be but generally I think the poem says what I wanted it to say, but it might be too cryptic for general consumption without some exposition. I'll give it some thought.

Best, H
