If you are still alive
Alone, burdened with debts
Then come here my friend
Away from your Great Britain
Away from love affairs and women
(You had been wasting too much time on these)
Come over to the East
(The east that much farther than Greece
And the east that Alexander dreamed of but failed to conquer
And the east that made Tamer turning over in his grave
I am willing to be your sacred Augusta
(Pure, chaste and undefiled, according to the Eastern custom)
And to be your soul sanctuary
(How I long for this great role indeed)
Here everything is well-matched to you
Here there is the highest mountain in the world
And the most mysterious plateau
And the most poetic nation and
The people honest and kind
Despite of being away
From your cradle of genius
You will return to the real town of eternity

I like the idea behind this one. I am totally convinced I am the soul mate of my favorite band's lead singer. Sigh, if only HE knew that. ;)

Lived his early life in Scotland of course where his nannie introduced him to sex, so he later claimed. Scottish nannies, eh? No sure if he's be interested in this chaste relationship you have in mind, I have to say.

A lovely, idealistic poem brimming with innocence but alas, it betrays the purity of young age. No doubt chastity is a virtue, then again it depends on who you're talking to. To a man who has experienced "love affairs and women" on a byronic scale, a "soul sanctuary" may dull in comparison.

Thank you Hallaig and Haunted for your reading and comment.

Hallaig: no, what you said isn't that I have in mind. I wonder if you read Byron's biography, if you did, you'd know what my focus.

Haunted: You had a good point here. But that's why the poetry is called art.

Oh, yuka, maybe you are precisely what he was looking for all along. He drowned himself in lust but was, perhaps, seeking a spiritual soul mate to fill his empty hunger.

I'd take a spiritual soul mate over a sexual partner anytime! (Well. ALMOST anytime.)
