Does anyone know any good Flemish literature, I'm particularly fond of novels from the 18th-19th century, but would appreciate pointers towards anything of interest in Flemish Literature.

Do you know Dutch/Flemish? If that is the case, you can read:

De Leeuw van Vlaanderen (The Lion of Flanders) by Hendrik Conscience. 1831 (i think), one of the first books in Flemish ever written since the middle ages. Very romantic literature. Quite nice to read.

De Vlasgaard about rural life.
Books by Ernest Claes. He's a very good prose writer.

Louis Paul Boon is very good. By far one of the most interesting in terms of humanity. raving socialist as well, so he focusses a lot on misery and the vile side of society.

Gerard walschap is another writer. I never read him, but he is supposed to have been quite controversial from a religious point of view.

If you don't know any Dutch/Flemish, it will become quite difficult. The only ne who has been translated, up till now and as far as I know, is Hugo Claus, bur I find him annoying
