I have been trying to remember the title and/or author of a short story. The plot was that a man who is a destitute drunk is loaded into a boat by an escaping slave. The slave nurses the man back to health on their long journey by feeding him coconut milk. The man regains his senses and realizes how wonderful life is now that he is free of his addictions. They land on an island, the slave builds a fire and the man realizes that he is going to be killed and eaten.
I had thought that the story was called something like "The Prize Head." It was in a school text book of short stories. All of the stories were horror with "gotcha" endings. Any help with identifying it would be appreciated.
