Hello friends,
Some time ago a colleague of mine recommended a book to me, I read the preface of his copy and found that I loved it. Now I don't remember the title or author. I can only describe what he told me the book was about.
It would seem to be a rather surreal book about a vicar who is turned into a tree, and who's place is taken by a log which has been made to look exactly like the vicar. The preface is some sort of dream sequence or vision in which the vicar is wandering through the streets of his town, which are filled with corpses. He meets an old homeless man at one point. He is then captured and tied to a tree where he is whipped. This is as far as I got into the preface.
My friend told me that some people consider this one of the best books of our time, though it is rather unheard of.
Please help!
