I read one could start a discussion about her work in this part of the forum. Anyone read"Gone With the Wind?"

there was Margaret Mitchell with her one book, "Gone with the Wind.When you say discuss her work, you obviously mean "Gone with the Wind" since that is the only book she ever wrote". I have read it twice, and because it is a fairly easy read, like "To Kill a Mockingbird," many do not regard it as a classic. Also, the blacks portrayed in the story would be considered "Uncle Toms" today.

The big question about the book is: if academia does not teach the book as part of American literature, can it be a classic. However, if the book has remained in print all these years, can its longevity signal that the book is a classic?

Mitchell's life revolved around the book by answering fan mail etc until her untimely death. She was struck by a taxi and killed on her beloved Peach Tree Street in Atlanta.
