View Full Version : Are there any other Eckhart Tolle fans here?

I am a huge fan of the contemporary philosopher Eckhart Tolle. His teachings are something I try to incorporate into my everyday life. I find it ingenious how his books show the way to inner peace (and I would go far as to say, show the existence of the soul) just by making fairly obvious observations and easy to understand metaphors.
Has anyone else here been moved by his work?

I remember reading A New Earth a few years ago although I can't remember much about what was in it. I probably should read it again.

A New Earth was fantastic, but I found The Power Of Now to be slightly better because it sets more of a foundation.

It looks like I've got a copy of The Power of Now. So I started rereading it. I like the idea that Enlightenment means "no suffering".
When I first read this book, I hadn't read anything about Eastern religions (Hinduism, Buddhism), but since then I have and I think that is why I drew a blank when trying to remember what this book was about. When I first read it, I really didn't understand it.

Man I wish I could do this - write a book about how 'true' being is located in Middle Earth next to the ion energy or something and have 30 million idiots fork over their life savings to me for it.
Beats making $400 a week I'll tell you that.

It only cost $14 plus tax. :)
That's less than 3 times out at McDonald's.

I'm rereading the book, Stonebolt, and think I'm understanding it better this time around.
I like Tolle's idea of being a "watcher" of one's thoughts and emotions to keep one conscious in the Now. It seems like a useful technique. Another technique I've heard from others is to recite a mantra. It can keep the mind distracted and if the words of the mantra are meaningful they can have a positive effect as well.

Repeat after me, "I am diseased. I am a disease," continue.

Not read anything by Tolle. It sounds like he has taken on and commercialized what J. Krishnamurti started in the 60s, and what eastern mystics were hinting at thousands of years ago.

He sounds like just another crackpot to me.

Wow YesNo, that's really cool.
Of course, a lot of people get a bad taste in their mouths whenever they look at his books. Anything that calls itself "a guide to spiritual enlightenment" will raise eyebrows. But once you get into the state of presence, you have a eureka moment.
I think his books would very much appeal to cynics. I remember chuckling when I read the words "Humans are a dangerously insane and sick species. That is not an argument. That is a fact."
