When we were young kids
We had a game called your it!
A game of tag we liked.

I never knew then
We were preparing the game,
For the life we would lead.

We only wanted to be left to play
It made us giddy and laugh,
This game of make believe
Didn't want us to face the truth.

As we grew,
The truth became an odd thing.
We all thought we knew,
By reading the scribes
By reading the stars.

But a funny thing we found
An unwilling heart to play along,
Just our minds beating proud
Telling our hearts to keep down.

This wall we worked on night and day
The thought we knew better,
So why challenge our minds at all
Those thoughts we left behind.

We built them in our dreams
Our thoughts hard at work,
Some call it our nightmares
I call it our wall of fears.

You think we would outgrow it
The walls we put up everywhere.
Even our fate with God,
That wall divides
After we die.

The walls that make our pride
We tuck those in our brains,
We think we know better
But there's no fooling our desires.

We love to build great things
The things of our imagination,
We build those walls with concrete;
But our walls are built with lies.

I have traveled the world over
Seeing for myself the great walls,
But the greatest wall of them all
The wall around our minds.
