Black Flood

from the south
the way you are always facing
bats rise from desert caverns

geckoes creep
in a halting dance
and find their place

the sun slides
beyond the edge
of the world

all is prelude
each movement
calls out to darkness

every breath
exhales night

Dreamtime

from the east
in your left hand
where day is born

in the deepening dark
the earth swells
fecund with the dawn

the weaver of tomorrow
turns in the womb
gathering dreams

as Grandmother Spider
throws stars
into the darkness

every dream
walks in night

Firestorm

from the north
over your shoulder
the darkness is torn

filaments of light
turn and spin
fireflies in the Milky Way

the One Tree
blooms pendulant dreams
into the night

Dark blossoms
fill the far horizon
and spread a cloak

every flower
smells of night

Xibalba

from the west
where the fire of the sun
is extinguished

beyond the reach of men
lies the path
that leads to dreams

spirits await dreamers there
and hold them aloft
above the dark waters

beneath us lies Xibalba
the dome of night
hangs above

every man
fears the night

I would like to eat this poem. Filaments, geckoes, pendulant dreams... a lovely little world you have, Munkin.

munkinhead,
This is great. Compass directions are used in a variety of ways in literature, but you have managed to do so in an original, interesting way. The imagery is astounding.

An amazing little series of poems, real jewels, munkinhead. They spring from the bottom of your universe to ours, perfect. It has been long since I read anything that good. If I had to quote my preferred passages, I'd have to copy/paste all your post. Love it all. Thanks a lot. Bar

There's so much craft revealed in this one could wallow in it. A fine piece.

You are all too kind. This is, I suppose, in response to some of the recent Amerind themed posts. A recent reread of "Black Elk Speaks" is in there too. I think that it still needs some small edits. I am glad you liked it.

The only place left is for me to look down and close my eyes and still I would hear your poems resonate in my ears. Beautiful.
