Dark Muse

In the Heart of Midnight
My heart rings in
the midnight hour
and softly the dark
allure begins to descend.
As a curtain falling,
I am left standing
upon the stage alone
watching the lights
systematically go out.
In the last flash
everything becomes
black, but for a distant
halo that remains,
my eyes in light-fog.
Caught in the zenith
of my mind, somewhere
on the other side
I know you are there.
But when the magic hour
dawns, will you
be left silhouetted
against the light.
Or shall I watch
your shadow
retreat behind
the meridian
of my thoughts.
My heart rings in
the midnight hour
and softly the dark
allure begins to descend.
As a curtain falling,
I am left standing
upon the stage alone
watching the lights
systematically go out.
In the last flash
everything becomes
black, but for a distant
halo that remains,
my eyes in light-fog.
Caught in the zenith
of my mind, somewhere
on the other side
I know you are there.
But when the magic hour
dawns, will you
be left silhouetted
against the light.
Or shall I watch
your shadow
retreat behind
the meridian
of my thoughts.
