The Last Soldier

Blood drips in his eyes
alone among the dead
beneath sun scorched skies
is this his final bed?

Alone among the dead
recalling old lies
nowhere to rest his head
these parched tears he cries.

Beneath sun scorched skies
his vision blurring red
lamenting past ties
on sand and dust he's fed.

Is this his final bed?
to nevermore rise
as slowly he is bled
forlorn his breath sighs.

It speaks to me, but then I think that I am a bit of a martyr.

For me, it seems odd that the chaos and horror of the battlefield is described in such a tight and ordered form.

Also, I don't get enough about the soldier to make him an individual. What are the "old lies" that he recalls, which "ties" is he lamenting?

I am not sure what the word 'yet' is doing in the final stanza. Should it be 'again'?

For me - a scene from my scriptures come to life of one Coriantumr just after: (ref: the chapter summery of ) The Book of Ether, Chapter 15 (http://lds.org/scriptures/bofm/ether/15?lang=eng):
Millions of the Jaredites are slain in battle—Shiz and Coriantumr assemble all the people to mortal combat—The Spirit of the Lord ceases to strive with them—The Jaredite nation is utterly destroyed—Only Coriantumr remains.

Thank you for your poem.
