Herb is singing and I’m harmonising,
off key and heartfelt,
banging the ivories
on my wheel,
winding the window
to sing to the birds and bees.
I’m on top of the world, Ma,
singing this lovely bloody song.
I pass a sad lady bent double,
blue hair blowing in the wind,
I click my fingers
and point her out
and with a cheesy grin
I sing,
off key and heartfelt
‘ This guy’s in love with you’.

This is one of your absolute best. One can feel the car is jampacked with upbeat optimism and the old lady crawling along at a slow pace really underlines the hopefulness of this imagery.

A real easy poem to like.

It's genuinely hopeful. Like hopeful with a cocky grin. A bit off-key from your usual fare, and yet one of your best. It reads like the winning paragraph from a novel.

I agree with all of the above posters. The notes of giddy youthfulness and optimism ring true. I can see his future (which will of course be fantastic) shimmering in the air before him.

I really, really like this....except "cheesy" jumps out at me as not the right word.
