I am 16 years old and I am writhing a paper for my college lit class comparing Aeneas and Natty as Epic heros... First of all I think Cooper did an excellent job of creating Natty and really showing us how our country came to be. This romanticism novel has depected our first American hero. The style of romanticism at the time was focusing on the good of one self compared to Virgils anthem of pietas, duty to one's family, gods, and country. Second I would like to say, imagine The Last of the Mohicans without Cooper's descriptions... now that would be a waste of time!

the origional anonymous commenter should give mr. cooper a break, after all, he wrote this almost 200 years ago. personally I find him easier to read than ann rice. Question; why didn't cave men drag their women by the anckles? (because they would fill up with dirt)

This was the most boring novel EVER written. Cooper should have read the Lively Art of Writing, and then maybe he would have been able to write sentences that didnt last for entire pages. It took me almost an hour to read a single chapter, and if I hadnt been absolutely forced to struggle through this dull and immoral novel, I wouldnt have. Not to mention that Cooper was vociferously biased in this crap writing... Find me one passage in this novel when he doesnt refer to the sisters as the weak, "gentle" ones.... when Cora is just as capable as any of the men, and in fact faces more hardship. She is the one who gets almost scalped, who gets harassed by Magua for marraige, who loses her sister, endures a bloody massacre, etc. I would deem this novel a waste of time and an infuration for any feminist. I can't understand why we wasted our English Class time on this novel when 101 Ways to Write an Essay would be more exciting.
