Why do you think Bradbury actually wrote his book draft in a library? Did his ideas come from this setting?

Bradbury probably wrote his book in a library because the whole novel has to do with how books are important and being around books might have helped him to think better.

Yes. Also i think he felt the presence of technology outside the library was overwhelming. He believes that the environment he was in would be loss in the close future of humanity. He basically never wanted books to be second BEHIND technology

What's with all the Fahrenheit 451 threads (and now this) popping up?

It also seems we have a tiger infestation.

I reckon tiger *is* Ray Bradbury and he's trying to get interest in his novel re-ignited.

Well in the Afterword he states that Fahrenheit 451 was a dime novel in which he payed a dime for a half hour on the typewriter. The library was also the only place he could be left alone with no distraction unlike the garage where his daughters distracted him. He also states that he was not in a steady economic situation..

There are many allusions ranging from Greek Mythology to Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. He might have crossed upon these books when writing about the book-burning dystopian society. "Between investing dimes and going insane when the typewriter jammed [...] and whipping pages in and out of the device, I wandered upstairs [to the library]. There i strolled, lost in love, down the corridors, through the stacks, touching books, pulling olumes out, turning pages, thrusting volumes back, drowning in all the good stuffs that are the essence of libraries." (Bradbury 168). While Bradbury wrote Fahrenheit 451, he most likely went to the library and read dozens of books which influenced the words, parts, and characters in the novel.

I reckon tiger *is* Ray Bradbury.
And obviously quite a few new member accounts as well.
I'm still pretty new here, can anyone tell me if this forum is actively moderated?

It is actively moderated, this doesn't happen usually, someone is probably just busy.

Moderators don't seem to be bothered by multiple accounts, really -- see Mozart in English thread, lol.

Hm, I don't know about that. The person sitting next to me at work also signed up and we both got emails telling us that having multiple accounts is a serious offence, and steps will be taken if [we] don't cease and desist. So I emailed back and explained about how we share a LAN point or whatever.

Ahyhoo, as for tiger...it seems like someone in an English class somewhere happened to mention Litnet and now they're all here with homework questions.

He made it clear that he didn't have a typewriter at home and the library offered an inexpensive typewriter service. That's all there is to it, really.
